Design Award of Germany 2010: Nomination of our guide 19.05.2009
The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is awarded annually for outstanding performance in the areas of product and communication design as well to a design personality. The SIMONSWERK 2008 guide was nominated for this "Prize of Prizes" in 2008.
The Design Award is recognised as Germany's highest distinction in the field of design. The unique nature of this design prize is that you cannot submit an application for it and must be nominated for it by the Federal States' economics ministries and senators or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. A further requirement for participation is that product must already have been awarded a national or an international design prize. Our guide was nominated last year after winning the Red Dot Award in the communication design 2008 category. A jury will select the winners from all nominees and they will be announced in November 2009.

Under the model name VARIANT PLANUM, SIMONSWERK has introduced an innovative hinge series with a reduced filigree knuckle diameter of only15 millimetres to the market. This connects design demands and high load capacity. The building hinges from the VARIANT VX and VARIANT VN product families set visual accents as the filigree hinge knuckle is used in a targeted manner for high-quality building doors as a subtle design feature.
High-quality architecture increasingly sets stylish building technology details in scene. While the shape of a structure seems much reduced, withdrawn and decorative facades give way to straight component parts, elegant but subtle technical elements appear to the eye with a high degree of creative demand. The elegant models from the VARIANT PLANUM product family meet the trend of surface flush construction elements. A reduced filigree knuckle hinge with a mere 15 millimetres distinguishes the building hinges. The VARIANT VX 7729/160-4 HA hinge system was specially developed for this requirement of house doors consisting of wood and aluminium. Burj Dubai: Hinge systems for the highest building in the world 03.03.2009
The Burj Dubai, the Dubai Tower is under construction on the Arabian Peninsula with a height exceeding 800 metres. According to planning, the highest building in the world is due to open in December 2009. Its 206 storeys will house several hundred apartments, a hotel and several offices. During the selection of the hinge systems, SIMONSWERK met the stringent requirements regarding design and functionality and was awarded the order to supply hinge systems for the area of the high-quality doors.
The special quality of SIMONSWERK’s products, the functionality of the hinge systems with regard to load-bearing capacity, adjustments and the company’s comprehensive service also convinced fashion designer Giorgio Armani who will be opening the first of his "Armani Hotels and resorts" worldwide in the Burj Dubai.
Armani's design concept, a combination of comfort, simplicity and elegance, is impressively emphasized by the SIMONSWERK hinge systems. Leather-upholstered wooden doors with steel frames will be integrated into the room concept surface flush with the fully concealed hinge system from the TECTUS model series.
